Jock has spent most of his life at sea. Having spent a childhood in and around boats, canoes and dinghies etc Jock first went to sea professionally in 1977 as a cadet with Cayzer Irvine becoming a master mariner in 1996 and has captained Anchor Handling Tug and Supply ships on and off ever since. He spent 4 years as Captain on Blue Leopard, a 112 ft Superyacht, taking her on a circumnavigation. Jock owned and skippered fishing boats in the early 80s and has been a cook on the Vic 32, a Clyde Puffer. Early in his career he Skippered Tugs / Work boats utilising spare time from this to train as a Reserve Royal Marine Commando and undertaking a Jungle Warfare Course with 40 Commando in Brunei. He spent time as a commercial Bush Pilot in Southern Africa in the early 90s. Jock is a keen cyclist and has done several long distance cycle rides including a ride from home to Marrakesh and the North Coast 500, unsupported, in 49.5 hours total time. He is Commodore of the local sailing club and, with a dinghy instructor's certificate teaches the local children sailing in the Club Toppers. In 2021 he participated in the NOSTAR single handed transatlantic race. He lives in Tighnabruaich and is passionate about the West Coast of Scotland, its scenery, food and sailing / outdoor possibilities.
